The new playground at the Community Center Park will be open soon. There is a play center for children from the ages of 2-5 and another play center for children from the ages of 5-12. In addition, there are new swings. Public Works did the demo of the old playground and the site preparation. The playground installers are waiting for a part to finish the install. The City of Southgate received a grant to demolish the tennis courts on Electric/Evergreen Ave. and build a green space park. The City applied for the Land and Water Conservation Fund grant several times in the past six years. In the fall of 2023 the Governor awarded the grant for the destruction of the tennis courts which were in bad shape and unsafe for use. It was approved to turn the area into a green space park. There will be improvements to this park in the near future. Design plans by the Southgate Park & Tree Board are currently being worked on.
